During the reign of the King of France, Louis Philippe I, Louis and Charles Isautier crossed the oceans from the metropolis to settle in Reunion. They are fascinated by the island and its treasure: sugar cane. Passionate about this plant, they acquire land to work on a cane selected to elaborate family rum. In 1845, Louis and Charles Isautier created the family business that still bears this name: six generations of Réunionnais succeeded one another. Perfectly balanced, old Isautier rums reflect a unique style: fresh, fruity, finely oaky, with notes of sea spray. The rums are distilled in columns and aged in a cellar, in fine grain French oak barrels specially designed for Maison Isautier for at least 3 years. Cold filtration helps maintain all the organoleptic qualities of their rums. Rum is a sugarcane brandy traditionally coming from the Caribbean islands and South American countries, but there are also some varieties of it that are produced in countries of which it is not a typical alcohol. Depending on its origin, it is called "rum" in good French, "rum" in English-speaking countries or "ron" in Spanish. It can be made from molasses or syrup obtained during the manufacture of cane sugar or sugar cane juice which are then fermented, then distilled and more or less aged. In the spirits department, there are different tasting rums: white rum, old rum (appellation contrôlée in France), amber rum, Martinique or Guadeloupe rum, Reunion rum and many others. Very aromatic, the rum is wonderful in cocktails: arranged rum, punch, planter, honey rum, Daiquiri, Mojito, Mai Tai. A rare and refined rum appearing in a good spirit cellar will however be best appreciated pure and possibly refreshed.
